About – Matt Watier

Art:

Matt Watier, the Maine native author and illustrator, started doodling in his math notebook when he was in third grade. Not because he didn’t like math, but because he was good at it, and he needed to do something else while he was waiting for his classmates to finish their work. It was during that crucial part of his life when he received his first compliment from a classmate who said, “Wow that is really cool. You are good at that.” And from that moment on Matt stopped dreaming of being an astronaut or a fireman and dreamt of being an artist. It wasn’t until sixth grade when Matt did his first illustration, and later in college that he decide that he wanted to be a children’s book illustrator.

Watier graduated from University of the Arts in Illustration and Design in 2001. His first published book is ANTS: Another Nice Tasty Sweet, which was published in Hebrew and English. Watier’s illustrations have won both online awards (on DeviantArt.com) and have been hung in various gallery shows throughout the East Coast. Watier now work as a web developer illustrator and/or designer(depending on the day) in the Washington, DC metro region.
