Social media personalization – How are you reaching your users?

Did you know that social media platforms are personalizing your experience based on your interests, background, and interactions on that platform?  Other than Facebook, I didn’t realize that each social media platform is 100% personalized to me, nor did I think through how that would impact the marketing campaigns I create for clients.

I’m going to share with you what I’ve found in a series of blog posts where I’ll walk through how each major social media network (and search engine) is personalized to the end user.  I walk through what the social media network has published related to its Machine Learning process and the brainpower they have on board to tackle the problem.

Why are social media networks personalizing what the end user sees?

The volume of information each of us receives everyday is overwhelming. Here are some recent stats from the IACP Center for Social Media:

The average social network user receives 285 pieces of content daily, including 54,000 words and 443 minutes of video…There are 1,500 stories that could show in the Facebook News Feed on every visit.

What is enabling this personalization?

The data that you give them. Think about what you fill out in your profile information, and how they can track your sharing behavior…
